Netflix Defenders shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Punisher)

The Netflix shows ran from April 2015 to June 2019 and tell a street-level story in New York. They build to The Defenders (2017), which brings Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist together, while The Punisher spins off from Daredevil season 2.

Agents of SHIELD and the pre-Disney+ era

Before Disney+, Marvel Television made shows for ABC, Hulu and Freeform. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was the longest of them, with seven seasons on ABC.

Where each show fits in the MCU timeline

The Netflix shows sit in the 2012 to 2018 part of the timeline, between I Am Groot and Ant-Man and the Wasp in the official order. Every Disney+ live-action series takes place after Avengers: Endgame, starting with WandaVision.

The animated shows are spread out. Eyes of Wakanda opens the whole timeline, I Am Groot sits right after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and What If…? and Marvel Zombies visit other universes. Our MCU timeline guide shows the years, and the chronological order list has the full order with the films, while the MCU phases guide groups everything by phase.

Marvel TV shows in order: FAQ

What is the correct order to watch Marvel TV shows?

For a first watch, follow release order: the Netflix shows from Daredevil (2015) to Jessica Jones season 3 (2019), then the Disney+ shows from WandaVision (2021) to VisionQuest (2026). If you are watching the films too, use the official Disney+ order instead, which mixes each series in with the films. Both orders are in the tables above.

Are the Netflix Marvel shows canon to the MCU?

Disney+ includes all six Netflix series in its official MCU timeline, from Daredevil to The Punisher, which is the closest thing to an official answer. Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ continues the story with Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk. Charlie Cox also appears as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Which Marvel show should I watch first?

If you have seen the Avengers films, start with WandaVision (2021). It is the first Disney+ MCU show, it runs nine episodes, and it picks up straight after Avengers: Endgame. If you prefer grounded crime stories, start with Daredevil season 1 on Netflix instead, which also sets up Daredevil: Born Again.

Where does Daredevil: Born Again fit in the MCU?

Daredevil: Born Again season 1 sits after What If…? season 3 and before Captain America: Brave New World in the official Disney+ order. Season 2 comes after Wonder Man, and The Punisher: One Last Kill follows it. The series continues the Netflix Daredevil story, so watching the Netflix seasons first helps but is not required.

Do I need to watch Agents of SHIELD before the Disney+ shows?

No. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is not in Disney+’s official MCU timeline, and none of the Disney+ shows or films depend on it. It is a long watch, with seven seasons on ABC from 2013 to 2020. Watch it if you enjoy it, but you can skip it without missing anything in the main story.

What is the latest Marvel TV show?

The latest Marvel TV show is VisionQuest, which premiered on Disney+ on 13 October 2026. It has eight episodes, with the finale on 10 November 2026, and Paul Bettany returns as Vision. The next confirmed shows are Daredevil: Born Again season 3 in March 2027 and the animated special Marvel Zombies: The Winter Soldier in October 2027.
